As people find comfort this Christmas Eve with family, friends and loved ones, I am moved to paint. Moved to ask, “How Many More?”
How many more must fall at the hands of those who “Serve and Protect”? How many more must fall at the hands of bigots and those who hat anyone who look different, those who live beyond one's comfort zone.
This goes beyond:
a white vs. black thing
a white vs. Hispanic thing
a white vs. Native American thing
a white vs. Asian thing
a white vs. Arab thing
a straight vs. gay thing
It is the continuations of those empowered vs. those who have been and continue to be disenfranchise and dehumanized - be it for centuries, or as politically motivated.
It is a continuation of perceptions and spin doctoring from conquers, colonizers, and Christian missionaries who convinced the masses that people who were not European White, where less then human and as such could be exploited, enslaved, and killed without threat of punishment.
Those who continue to believe these are the same folks who deny the holocaust.
Yes, BLACK LIVES MATTER, and senseless deaths at the hands of police or other individuals needs to stop.
This rant is directed to my white audience - get over your sense of whiteness and white privilege, of white entitlement. Once, those who view themselves as white begin to see themselves as part of the human race, maybe we can start seeing others as equals. It is only at this point that Violent Deaths without cause have a chance at ending.
